I’ve always wanted to be a runner but I failed at every attempt. And I attempted it several times over the years. I walk and hike a lot but could never stick to running. I still don’t consider myself a ‘runner’, not just yet, but I can at least run for 30 minutes. Granted I’m running slowly, but at least I’m running. That was the key for me. Go slow!
I discovered a book at the library entitled “Run Your Butt Off” by Sarah Lorge Butler. The plan is in 12 stages. I completed each stage in a week, but you can take it slower than that. The plan progresses from walking 30 minutes, four days a week to running 30 minutes four days a week. The key is go SLOW. In fact, they suggest running at the same page you walk. Well, for me, that was the key. I made it through the plan in 12 weeks and now I’m gradually increasing my speed. I’m still running 30 minutes 4-5 days per week, and I actually look forward to it. The book also includes an eating plan, success stories, and motivational chapters.
My first long term goal is to be able to run 5 miles. I don’t plan on running any races. But I’m very motivated to see where this takes me. If you want to become a runner, check out this plan.
