Health and fitness – exactly what does that mean?

Health consists of a positive quality of life and an absence of disease.belly_body_calories_263403  Physical health is based upon exercise, proper nutrition, appropriate body weight and composition, and sufficient sleep.

Fitness is the ability to perform the tasks of daily living with vigor and alertness, without undue fatigue and with ample energy to enjoy leisure time pursuits and to meet unforeseen emergencies (Clark 1976).  Physical fitness includes cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance, agility, coordination, and reaction speed.

Now that you know exactly what health and fitness means, what does it take to achieve health and fitness?  That is what I hope to address with this site.  Good health and fitness is a life-long commitment.  Proper nutrition and exercise should be integral parts of your life, habits.  That doesn’t mean you need to make drastic changes all at once.  Making small changes over time will show results.
